Whats In The Fridge!

So I've been bored all day and thought I'd stick my SB-600 in the fridge...

Settings

ISO 200
F/2.8
SS 1/125
24mm
Flash 1/4

Fun Self Portrait

I recently took a new self portrait of myself in my kitchen, but I used a different approach with a different style of lighting and positioning. I wanted something that had a sci-fi feel so I thought of a couple different ideas and came up with this!

Here is where I took the shot

I put the camera on the tripod and put the self timer on. I pre focused so everything was set and ready to go. I Used an off camera flash, which sat on top of the fridge pointing up on the wall, using wireless triggers.

To get the perfect exposure I just played around with it and the power output of the flash. Final image was around 1/125 F/4.5 ISO 100. Barely any editing afterwards, just a little curves :)

Nikon D90 ISO Test

The same test used for the Nikon D700 ISO experiment. Although ISO levels don't go as high on the D90 as they do on the D700. KEEP THAT IN MIND.

-Focal Length: 80mm (120mm equivalent)
-Consistent F/8
-RAW conversion settings equal. No NR.

ISO range from 100 to 6400.

Nikon D700 ISO Test

Here we have photographs taken from a Nikon D700 mounted with a 80-200mm AF f/2.8. You can tell the significant difference between ISO Ranges, and later compare to the D90 which is in the following post.

-Focal Length: 120mm
-Consistent F/8
-RAW conversion settings equal. No NR.

The Difference Between DX and FX Nikon Camera's

Everywhere on forums and different blogs people are asking what the difference between a FX camera+lens is to a DX camera+lens. The answer is pretty simple and if you want to know and see examples, then continue reading.

DX and FX refer to the size of the image sensor within the camera, DX is smaller than FX, about 1.5X. It also refers to the different lens types, DX lenses have an opening that will only completely fill a DX sensor with light but will not fill the complete FX sensor. See crapy paint picture below

Now that that is out of the way, we should understand that a DX lens on a FX sensor will end up with the sensor only being partially exposed to light, leaving the rest black.

Now on the other hand, when using a FX lens on a DX sensor you wont get the full image because the sensor isn't big enough in dimensions compared to the lens opening.

Here is a example of a 80-200mm FX lens zoomed at 200 on a FX camera

And now the same lens, same positioning, but on a DX camera

As you can see using a DX sensor gives you a false zoom. Since the crop is 1.5x we can say that the apparent focal length of a 200mm on a DX camera is actually 300mm

Some may think this is better but it really isn't, the quality difference is enormous and using a FX sensor is just like a piece of film.

Hopefully that helps you understand the two sensors. If you have any questions or see something I did wrong let me know! :)

14-24mm Nikkon f/2.8

Had the chance to mess around with a very wide angle lens today. I got some fun shots around my house but nothing to to special. I meant to get some more interesting shots but got busy with things. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to post some more. Here are just a couple of photos! Highly Recommend!

Home for the weekend with the D700.

With it being Family Day on Monday I decided I will be going home to Muskoka for the weekend. While I have much studying to be done for the upcoming mid terms I am also looking forward to trying out the Nikon D700 around the area with some nice full frame lenses.

I'm going to post some photos, showing the difference of a 80-200mm on a DX camera and on a FX camera. and showing how awesome the 50mm 1.4 is :)

Ahh camera bag, camera bag, laptop bag, and clothes :P

Up and Running. Exciting New News!

I have been thinking a lot lately about putting my name out there are whether I should or should not branch out into photography work. I have been debating it for a while and the argument I had with myself was Do I want to portray myself as a student?

I realized that I am not just a student, I am a talented photographer capable of producing professional grade images. I decided my name will go out and that I will portray myself as the hard working passionate young businessman artist that I am.

I have set up multiple means of spreading the word such as using www.wix.com for a website where I can showcase my photographs in a effective way. I am have adopted facebook for my new photographic venture as well as continuing my blogging.

Muskoka photographer Joseph Brunner is about to become known. Get excited, I know I am.

Joseph.
