Not much else happening worth putting up really, just really bored!

Out.

Last Night - Wierd

Last night was a very creepy night, the day was as usual as possible but later sometime around 5:00 the power had failed, but my room had half power! The kitchen and bathroom was out but the rooms worked, it was like this all across rez!

We didn't think much of it, although it was kind of cool cuz the hallways only had those emergency lights so it was all dark and whatnot! So me and my friends had planned to go to the movies to see PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2. :l what a night to go!

So we left to go to the movie theatre the power was still "half" out. We went to the movies and I had never been so rattled by a movie in my whole teenage life! The movie was crazy and got me and my friends all tingly with fright.

As soon as the movie was over all I could think about was the walk back (it was 11:30 by the way) to residence and the fact that the power was now completely out and everything was pitch black there, according to a text from another kid there.

We got back and our walk was more funny than anything, consisted of scaring each other and me and greg running ahead of the others and hoping two fences and then scaring our freinds around a corner, although it didn't work so well.

We got back and everyone was outside and in the lobby hanging out, secruity was there, i guess incase some crazy came while it was pitch black. I could see it happening. Anyway! it was late and I had a Midterm the next morning at 8:30 so I went to my room, down the most dark hallways i had ever seen, my roomate wasn't there all night so it was just me in my pitch black room with my friends banging on my window and my door trying to scare me! they stopped once i texted them because i knew it was them right away!

Anyway bottom line, RATTLED.

Shower Time and Midterm Time.

Got New Equipment!

So yesterday I went out to Henrys to look for an umbrella and stand! I ended up getting the 45" white shoot through umbrella by Photoflex and a cheapish stand. As soon as I got back to my residence I set it up right away and fired off a couple shots. I didn't get to play around with it much because when we got back my buddies were upstairs hangin out and I was headin up there too haha

Anyway! Heres the set up and a shot I did of my friend Dana who is also in the program with the umbrella and then one without to show the difference, my friends were pretty amazed!

As you can see the photo on the left has harsh side lighting from the direct from of the SB-600 where the picture on the right has nice soft lighting from diffused light coming from the 600 through the white umbrella and onto the subject.

SB-600 Fun

I have been reading a lot about off camera flash and using speedlights on location. I have a Nikon SB-600 that I have been messing around with on my tri-pod and using the D90`s commander flash setting but the two times I went out I couldn`t nail the exposures..

I just learned yesterday about speedlights Guide Number and the mathematical equation behind it. Its simple but very essential, all I need is a measuring tape and a chart with all the different Guide Numbers depending on ISO levels. Maybe later I`ll explain how it works.

Now that I know more about the flash and how to properly place the light as well as get the right settings I should be able to shoot some decent on location shots with flash. Hopefully I will be getting a cheap light stand with a cheap white umbrella so i can have some nice defused light over the harsh direct flash.

First month and a bit..

I am here at college and have been since the fourth of September. Since then i have been going to my classes and learning some stuff about Digital photography, hence the program i am in...

To be honest the first month and a bit wasn't exactly what I thought it was gonna be like. My class consists of newbies and some more advanced photographs therefore since we have those people just starting out, we have to start from the very basics.

I have been taking photographs for just over a year now, I used a Nikon D60 for my first year of shooting and then just before college I upgraded to a Nikon D90. Anywho, after a year of shooting random things in beautiful Muskoka and reading books on photography, i had gained a pretty good knowledge of basic photography. And that is what is making the program seem a little dull.

I am going to be very excited for when we start to learn things that i mainly don't know because right now learning about apertures and shutter speeds is killing me! It is getting better though I can say that for sure!

Here are a couple photos from the past little while... P.s. i am not fond of any of these but I will show you anyway :)

This is of the rock that I picked up on Juno beach in Normandy and of the Vimy Ridge badge that I got when visiting the monument.

First day using the strobes in the studio, but without flash just modeling lamps.

This Photo is a silhouette of my friend Nerrisa, teacher told me it was good stuff :p

This is one of my first Portrait assignments, never really photographed people before but i must say it was a lot of fun!

Lastly this is in a building in Buffalo!

I know thats not many photos, but i am tired and thats a long post!

Joey B is Blogging Once Again!

It has been a long time since I blogged about anything. My last time on blogger was when I went on my wonderful trip to Europe in May which was on a different site (http://myvictoryineurope65.blogspot.com/)

I am basically just gonna blog about school and assignments and other random subjects!

Hurray!
