High Contrast Strobist
Hi Everyone!
I was sitting here in my dorm room bored out of my mind and thought no better time to photograph something! I didn't know what to shoot so I looked around my room, I had the D700 signed out at the time so I decided to photograph my D90! But I wanted to do it a different way instead of just natural lighting or a single light.
I grabbed my friends SB-600 so that I could have two at my disposal, one of mine and the other hers. From there I attached cheap receivers to the flashes and a transmitter to the D700! (See Below)
From there I put my camera on the bed and thought of a good position for the lights. I set them down and adjusted the power outage for both strobes. The one on the right had a higher power, i believe it was set to 1/16 while the other on the left was set to 1/32 for some fill.
After that I just started to play around with angles and such, here are some shots! It was really cool to do and super easy! Also, adjust the white balance to different degrees to get some cool colour effects... And yes when I put "cool" I meant awesome! :P
For the image below I put a strobe right behind the D90 giving some cool flare and burst!

Stock Assignment!
The last assignment me and my class had gotten in our Stock Photography class was to shoot a portfolio of Pizza and Beer. We were to hand in only five salable photographs that were perfect examples of stock photography.
First I will explain what Stock photography is. The word stock means things on the shelf, not the stock of broccoli! A stock company will house billions of photographs taken in from photographers across the globe. These photographs now go on display for anyone to buy the LICENSING RIGHTS. Meaning they pay a certain amount of money for a specific use of the image.
So basically in the case of pizza and beer. If I was a advertising company and needed a photograph of college kids fighting for a pizza then I would search it on a stock companies website and find the perfect match. Then buy the rights and bam you have your image without hiring a photographer.
Me and two other students got together on a Friday night and ordered a large pepperoni pizza from Dominos. The first thing to do before shooting a stock assignment is to do some research, we went onto multiple stock site such as Getty Images and Corbis. We brainstormed ideas and heres what we came up with.
As you can see stock is not my forte!

Silhouette Photographs
Silhouette photographs can be very be very captivating and also can be very creative. A silhouette is basically your subject placed infront of something that is emitting a lot of light towards the subject and then to the camera. See example!
That is your most basic silhouette lighting set up. You can change the light source from a studio strobe to a bright window, the sun and so on. For your exposure, you basically want to expose for your background (light source)which means your background light needs to be significantly brighter then your subject because you want to your subject to be more or less black agaisnt your perfectly exposed background. Here is an example!

CCAA Womans National Basketball Championships
I'm at my school Niagara College in Welland Ontario where the 2011 CCAA Womans National Basketball Championship is being held. They are on their final day and it is my first day covering the event. I have been here shooting since one oclock this afternoon starting with Dawson College Blues vs Capilano University Blues. It was a pretty good game with lots of competition.
After that Niagara College was up agaisnt MSVU(Mount Saint Vincent University). It was quite the match, both teams were giving it their all but in the end MSVU came out on top.
Now the bronze medal game is about to start so here we go!
